Olympic Fever? More like an mild cold

I am sitting in my living room with Diana as the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games starts and she is "oohhhing" and "aahhhing" as fireworks go off and people ski down mountains in a montage of Canadian pride. Diana has been looking forward to this for weeks and one of the things that made her super excited about TiVo is that she could record some of the events. I just have to say when it comes to Olympics...

I DON'T CARE.

I really don't. It is the most uninteresting thing in the world for me. I love what they represent, Nations sending their top athletes to a single place to compete and see who is the best without having to resort to war. But it is soooo boring. I could fall asleep right now and I am only typing.

I don't understand why this is such a big deal to everyone. Name one medalist from 2002. I can't. It just seems like such a waste of time. Never have cared, never will. Unless one of my kids ever becomes an Olympian...then I guess I will try to give a crap. Until then, I will pass on all the fanfare.

That is all,

Newt

You see, Enemy, this is why I am destined for winning. I can name several medalists from 2002. Melissa Wickenheimer, Cassie Campbell, Martin Brodeur - all hockey greats, of course. And apparently there are other important sports in the olympics, but I'm not sure if it's true.

What bugged me about the whole thing was just how non-canadian and how non-Vancouver the whole thing seemed. The Native part was exaggerated (as it always is in this part of the world), though at least the fiddle music seemed SORT of Canadian. That guy talking about how Canadians are super nice in a loud voice annoyed the hell out of me, though - I wanted to punch him in a true hockey riot style.

And Bryan Adams? Seriously?

But now that the opening ceremonies are over, we can settle down for the important thing - my country beating your country's butt at hockey and curling. Can I get an Amen?

I'm not a sports person either. As much as I like Tennis, I fall asleep just by watching a match...ugghh

How dare you say such a thing! The Olympics are inspiring and amazing and awesome. Except for maybe the opening ceremonies...tend to run a little long. I'm a total Olympics junkie and plan to spend an obscene amount of time watching.

Interesting, I equate watching the Olympics to having a really horrible flu. Because that's exactly what forced me to watch them in the first place. Having a horrible flu.

Although the summer Olympics a few years ago did inspire my friends to have a contest to see who could run around a queens block faster. The end result? One of them threw up in the sink.

Though the opening ceremony was lame, I can't say it is worse than the skating KKK members (sic "snowflakes") at the Utah games.

Also, CrazyNewt, if that is your real name, you can name medalists for the winter games because, well frankly, what else do the Canadians have to keep their minds occupied?

Why, Canadians have HOCKEY to keep our minds occupied. Also, we invented Trivial Pursuit. You're welcome, world.

Though, to be honest, I misnamed a finalist from 2002. It's actually Hayley Wickenheimer, not Melissa - I got the player's name actually mixed up with the name of a friend of mine!

Wow, I am surprised at how many anti-Olympic comments there are. Aside from the Canadian, which as Addy's Daddy said can only be because they have nothing better to do, must mean the Olympics do suck as much as I thought.
