Little Women - The Musical

Pop Quiz: what classic women’s novel was turned into a crappy Broadway Musical? Why, Little Women of course. And that is what stopped me from getting to watch the Lost finale last night (don’t worry, I taped it). We bought season tickets to the Dallas Summer Musicals and last night was the first on our list. Most of you probably know the story of the March sisters and their adventures. Well, just imagine it to music in the same vein as any other Broadway and you might get an image of what I had to sit through last night.

I have never read the book so I went in with a blank slate, nothing to compare to and no preconceived notions of what I was going to see. But early on, I was sorely disappointed. Granted, this is a show aimed at women, but really that shouldn’t be an excuse. I didn’t hear one song that would ever be described as great, the story was cheesy, and the acting was lacking appeal. Worst was the fact that Jo, the main character, wouldn’t stop screaming “Christopher Columbus” every time she was agitated, excited, etc.

The second act was a lot better than the first, but the first was longer so, like sex, you have to put up with a lot of the grind to get to the happy ending. All in all, I wasn’t satisfied with my experience but luckily the next tickets are for a show I want to see.

That is all,

Newt

This will be the last post until after Memorial Day as we are going to bury my grandmothers ashes
