Passions. No, not the soap opera.

Hello All,

When I first started blogging, I intended to do this blog as a way to get people thinking. I have meant to pose the following question to anyone who reads the Lily Pad, but as random thoughts popped into my head, I kept putting it to the side. But now, my mental diarrhea has taken some Imodium and I see fit to ask you now, "What are you passionate about?" I know this seems a silly question, but have you ever really given it too much thought. I would like anyone reading this to mull it over and post your response in the comments page. 5 things, that's all I want to know. I, of course have given this a large amount of thought and I will present my list to you.

1. The love of my life, Diana. I'm not sure if she is a better person for knowing me, but I am a better person for knowing her.
2. My passion for comic books, which comes in a close second. I know without them, my life would not be anything like what it is today.
3. My children, Duncan & Hazel. They're of the 4 legged kind.
4. Literature. Without books, I don't think life would make half as much sense as it does, and even now it doesn't make that much sense.
5. Friendship. Because I hand out so few of them, that the ones I do have are priceless.

Now, there are tons of things I care about. Family, music, and food are just a few extra things that come to mind. But a lot of my family are also my friends, in one way or another. Music and food are necessities to life, and thus passion is limited to the things a person can not live without. When my obituary is read, I wouldn't want anyone to be thinking that I spent all my time at work or doing something I didn't love. I want to be remembered by the things I listed above. So I ask you in all seriousness, "What are you Passionate about?"

That is all,

Newt

I am passionate about:

1. My friends and family. I love them so deeply it hurts.

2. Stories. I love to listen to people's stories when I meet them in a cafe, I love to read wonderful books, I love to see great stories played out on the silver screen.

3. I am passionate about peace and poverty. The human condition across the world moves me.

4. I am passionate about food and wine. I think eating a long leisurely meal and sipping bright rich well crafted wine is one of life's truly great pleasures. I think the SLOW food movement deserves more praise.

5. I am passionate about sleep. About basking ins silky soft sheets and dreaming. Having the time to sleep is a luxury. Sleep heals our body and makes us healthy... and what is more important than health?

My passions are:

1. Trinity. Without you, I would never have been able to find myself. I love you.

2. Music. There is nothing sweeter than hearing beautiful harmony.

3. Travel. Every time I travel to a new destination, I feel a sense of wonder. It is amazing for me to see people interact in different settings and cultures.

4. Family & Friends. I love them more than I can explain.

5. Reading. I know a good book when I pick it up and after several chapters of saying to myself, "This is the last chapter I can read tonight," I turn the page to read just one more.

Here are my passions:

1. The love of my life! Just being close to her can fill me with the best feelings that I didn't even know existed before I met her.

2. Family and Friends. To those who know me, you know that the lines between these groups cloud quite a bit, but I wouldn't be the person I am or have the memories that I have without my family and life-long friends... you know who you are!

3. Dogs. I have always had them and my favorites in my life are Finn, Sassy, Von, Duncan, Willie, etc. I think that dogs are the greatest animal on the planet.

4. The arts! Nothing feels the world with more beauty than literature, theater, movies, art or music. These things give life meaning and help everyone put their lives into perspective.

5. This one is a little different, but I think 5 would have to be humor, inspiration and creativity. I don't think that these can exist without the diversity that is inherent in humanity and I think that these three provide the world's population with their passions!

I am Passionate about:

1) Family and Friends. They go together because I think of my close friends as faimily, and family is the world to me.

2) Entertainment of any kind, it be stage, screen (big and small), or music. Enjoy it when and if you can.

3) Reading, thanks to Trinity. Books are one of the great escapes of the day to day. Everyone should have atleast one book to read over and over.

4) Humor, you have to be able to laugh at yourself the people around you and situations you tend to get in. If you can't find humor it's hard to find happiness.

5) Love, and I don't just mean the love our your life. The love of anything and anyone. Love the life you have and the fact that you wake up each day and get to live it.
